I’ve been meaning to recap our honeymoon travels for almost a year now and finally getting it done! The first place we went on our UK/Europe trip was to London. To be honest, we only went to London initially because the flights from Tampa were way cheaper than flying straight to Italy. But when I tell you I absolutely fell in LOVE with London, I’m not exaggerating. As soon as we returned to the States, I immediately started planning our next London trip, since we only spent a few days there. There’s so much more I want to see! We tried to hit all the essential spots though, so hopefully if you’re thinking of traveling to London, you’ll find some ideas in this London travel guide.
First things first โ food!
London Eats & Drinks
For English Breakfast: Terry’s Cafe
I’d never had a traditional English breakfast before, so finding a good one was one of the main goals of our time in London. We ended up at Terry’s Cafe after reading lots of reviews for the best English breakfast spots. This cafe did not disappoint!
Jeremy got the full-on English breakfast. I got the slightly Americanized version of the traditional English breakfast, sans mushrooms and black pudding.
The food was phenomenal! We both finished our plates and were full until dinner. It’s so much food, but you truly can’t stop eating, everything is so good.
My favorite parts were the sausage and baked beans. It’s nothing like the sausages and baked beans you’d get in the States. I could seriously eat this for breakfast every day and never get tired of it.
While we waited for our table, there was a cute coffee shop attached to the cafe. We got a latte and coffee there and it was delicious!
The cafe itself was quaint and heavily decorated. You’d never get bored looking around this cafe and finding new pictures, plates, and even shoes hanging up.
For Airport Coffee: Caffe Nero
We all know airport coffee can be hit or miss. We wanted to try as local of a spot as possible, even at the airport, so we decided to check out Caffe Nero.
It was delicious and the best airport coffee I’ve had! I’d highly recommend checking this out if you need a little pick-me-up after the long flight.
For Pub Food: The Leather Exchange
We were exhausted by the evening of the first night in London. A full night on an airplane means almost no sleep in our case. So we wanted some quick pub food near our Airbnb.
We ended up stopping at The Leather Exchange for burgers and fries. The food was incredible! Especially for bar/pub food, I was so impressed. I normally expect a greasy burger and soggy fries going to a bar near me, so we were really impressed with the quality and freshness of this food.
It even came with a side salad with some of the best dressing I’ve ever had.
Big Ben / Westminster Bridge
This one speaks for itself. You don’t go to London (as a tourist) without seeing Big Ben.
Big Ben is one of the most well-known symbols of London and the UK. There were, of course, a ton of people around.
Standing on the bridge trying to get photos was tough, due to the number of people. So most of our photos ended up being from across the river.
I did end up getting a few close up shots though!
To get to Big Ben (from where we were staying), you make the trek across Westminster Bridge.
Buckingham Palace
Another staple of London is Buckingham Palace. This is where the King or Queen lives and it’s truly crazy how much access people have to this building. There’s, of course, a giant fence around the building itself, and guards out in front. But the fact that locals and tourists can walk around this area out front is pretty cool.
Tower Bridge
One of the most iconic and stunning bridges in London is Tower Bridge. We walked here from our Airbnb one evening to see it on our way to dinner.
Walking around London…
Some beautiful yellow flowers!
One thing we loved about London was the access to public transportation. There were double-decker buses everywhere in the city. We took one to the Harry Potter Studio, which was about an hour’s drive out of London.
Outside of the buses, we also took the tube everywhere else. We walked a ton during this trip and it’s nice to be able to get your steps in while commuting places instead of being stuck in a car for hours.
The trees here were so lovely!
On our way to breakfast. ๐
This isn’t a walking view, but check out the view from our Airbnb! I can’t imagine waking up to this every day. So stunning!
Harry Potter Studio Tour
Here are a few photos, but I’ll be doing a full blog post about our time at the Harry Potter Studio Tour! I’ll link it here once it’s finished. ๐
London Travel Guide: In Conclusion
If you’re planning a UK trip, I hope this London travel guide gave you a few ideas of eats, drinks, and things to do/see!
I wish I had more recommendations, but after only being there for 3 days, this is all I’ve got (in photo form anyway, we definitely had more food/drinks I could’ve recommended, but unfortunately forgot to take photos.)
We’re considering making another UK trip in the fall (England, Scotland, and potentially Ireland) so I’ll be sure to make another post later this year with even more recs!
Until then, thanks so much for reading, and we’ll talk soon! ๐
